Augmented Reality Public Art Mural in Seattle!
If you didn’t know, well now you know! You’ve might of saw the Seattle Times article or in Geekwire, but we are happy to announce it here! We have been working on our first public art mural in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood with Future Arts! This project started back in November 2021, when we submitted our application via the Future Arts Instagram page. The project itself is an International Augment Reality Artist Showcase that uses storefront facades and the urban environment to host augment reality art.
ABOUT
Ancestral Future: Indigitized Landscapes is a simulated Augmented Reality (AR) experience where planet Earth reclaims land of the cities floating above Seattle. Time does not exist in this floating city, but one could argue that time is stuck in infinity. What you see today is a vacant building, but in the time of infinity is where the past meets the present day. No human has ever been able to live the eternity of infinity. The only species able to live the span of this era are plants. These plants carry special names given to them by the first peoples of this land, The Coast Salish.
The plants you see before you can be found throughout the wild in the Pacific Northwest. Help preserve and honor the Coast Salish peoples by pronouncing these plants’ names in the language - tʷəlšucid ( Lushootseed).
WHY ANCESTRAL FUTURE: INDIGITIZED LANDSCAPES
Back in November Gabriel and put our heads together to collaborate on this project. We knew the theme included nature, but we wanted to add our Artistic + Architectural + Urban Designer backgrounds to the mix. With that came floating cities and plants, but we wanted to take it step further and include being sustainable, inclusive, and innovative. Sustainable being that the community would be able to help keep the Lushootseed language alive + honor the land and indigenous community. Inclusive with representing our indigenous plants (hence the 3 plants) + communities, and innovative by using augment reality technology.
THE PROCESS
The team worked with Mike Peredo, to get the AR art up and running using Sparks AR. We even got the chance to learn how to use Sparks AR! Of course we could of not had done this without the help of Yuliya Bruk and her team. Yuliya being the Founder of Future Arts + her team, helped to coordinate all of the international artists, meetings, communications, planning and ect…
