OTHELLO - SLOW THE FLOCK DOWN : POP-UP TABLE EVENT
This past summer we worked with Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to help Seattle’s SE community identify problematic areas (ex: crashes, high speeding, serious injury, fatalities). As part of our outreach efforts we held a pop-up tabling event on Wednesday August 30th, from 5pm-7pm at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. & S. Othello St (aka at the Othello Light rail station).
During the pop-up we + one SDOT representative, spoke with over 30 community members in helping to get the word out about taking the survey. At the table we handed out Vision Zero and Slow the Flock Down swag. There was also an option for community to add points onto a printed map of where they have seen speeding, crashes, serious injuries, and fatalities.
Flyers with QR codes, like the one seen above, were given out to people passing by the table, waiting at the nearby bus stop, and those utilizing the nearby Metro Flex pickup/drop off zone.
Not only did we speak with the community we also had the opportunity to speak with representatives from Sound Transit, SDOT, Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, Council Member Tammy Morales team, Mayor’s Unified Care Team, and the Office of Economic Development; as they were conducting their 2nd of 3rd community safety walks around the Othello light rail station.
